A Few Thoughts about Detox

So I’ve been around the health & detox block a time or two. My thoughts and beliefs about health have certainly changed and evolved over time. I have seen trends come & go, and then come around again. I don’t really get excited about trends and terms like “weight loss” and honestly even “detox.” However, I do think that there are reasons to make changes - for the healthier, for the better.

We all experience stress, and sometimes we go through more extreme periods of stress and find ourselves in patterns that aren’t the healthiest. Or maybe we go through a health scare or crisis, or a personal loss or trauma. Maybe we’re in a season of life that has been emotionally difficult, or maybe we’ve been so busy that we haven’t done meal planning and meal prepping, and kept to our workout regimen. There are many reasons why it’s nice to make a fresh start, and nice to really stop some habits cold turkey.

There are many health experts who believe that detoxing once or several times a year is really important and helps reset the body. There are juice detoxes, and nutritional detoxes - physical detoxes, etc. Dr. Frank Lippman speaks about how detoxing can help reduce our overall toxic load that we experience just from our exposure to environmental toxins, pesticides, GMOs, preservatives, and more.

Some may also think of detoxing your thoughts, what you expose yourself to, detoxing your friends, and the possibilities are endless. I think it’s a great time of year to get rid of the icky energy of 2020, and even if 2021 isn’t a magical cure, it is still a new year and can be a new experience.
